*Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (or SMP for short), is a non-surgical, cosmetic tattoo that gives the illusion of a close buzz cut hairstyle on a bald head or adds density to a thinning hair line. The procedure can also be used to conceal scars from hair transplantation, hide the visual impact of burns or to treat hair loss through skin conditions such as Alopecia. Scalp micro pigmentation can be performed on all skin types and colours. This procedure involves local anesthesia to avoid any pain during procedure. In contrast to tattoos, the procedure does not penetrate the epidermal level of the skin as deeply, and the inks (or pigments) used are less prone to color change over time. The advantages of this procedure is that the hairline can be adjusted and restored.
*The cost of scalp micropigmentation depends on a variety of factors, such as where you live, the type of procedure
you choose, the treatment area required and how many treatments you need. The procedure takes about two or three sessions, which usually last about three hours each. Clients can choose from many of
shades of ink to match their original hair color and skin tone. Whilst scalp micro pigmentation is a permanent treatment, it can be removed with a correctional procedure or laser
treatment.
Most clients will require 2-3 sessions. Aggressive fading often associated with treatments by other providers, is uncommon when using genuine Scalpa ink as the formulation is different. Additional treatments will increase the density, the number of ink dots in one area. More density will result in a darker, more natural look, which will help integrate the procedure into any remaining hair. However, explain that it’s always better to work conservatively and not do too much too quick. It’s better for a customer to say “it’s too light and it faded”, versus “it’s too dark, and I need you to laser it”. Clients with scars are more likely to require more sessions as scar tissue absorbs ink more readily, resulting in more significant fading. Treatments on clients with Alopecia may still be complete after 2-3 sessions, however the sessions are likely to be longer, especially if the client is suffering from aggressive Alopecia Areata or patchy hair loss, or Alopecia Totalis, the total loss of all head hair.
